ELECTROHOME APOLLO CIRCA 711 - RESTORING PROJECT (and final result)

A friend of mine gave me this baby.... it needed some sweet loving.

I first sanded everything with a gentle paper

Masking tape everywhere

Just about to paint it with a hammered spay paint (it looks pretty similar to the original finish)

The black hammered Tremclad from Canadian Tire

My old emac displaying a photo of the beast (notice the XONEX MODEL ET 547)

See how good it looks

The original plate was all scratched

I removed all the old paint with a gentle plastic scraper

I designed a plate based on an original taken from the internet in Adobe Illustrator

My friend Louis Bouvier at his silkscreen workshop (look at his work, he's an amazing artist)

I did silkscreen printing for the front plate, I used OIL PAINT for durability.

Even better than the real thing

The bulb is still working

I correct this with black oil paint (i used touch-up pen for cars)

Look below in the final result section, I put a link to buy the ceramic cartridge (BSR SC5H) and the needle too

All dusty

ORIGINAL MISSING LEG

As the original "leg" was missing, I used this table leg ... the dimensions were exactly the same

Sanding with a 100 grade paper

Turning the steel to give the same finish as the aluminum

Close enough

I used a filleted rod to put it back together

My little workshop

I had to rewire the "leg" with new wire a solder it back togheter

The wires ready to be placed

Few things going on in the garage at the same time

Inside the beast

I have a small ELECTROHOME APOLLO CIRCA 860

This is the final result

I got the cartridge on ebay here at CAROLE'S NEEDLES and the needle at Maddison in Laval, Québec, Canada

I got replacement knobs at Addison in Montreal, Québec, Canada (the have a great website)

These are not the original speakers though, the are from a PANASONIC MODEL RS 252S

THANKS FOR WATCHING

  1. Thanks for posting this. I just wrote a long comment about finding an Electrohome 711 in an old shed earlier today, but it got eaten by the web. Where on earth did you find the speakers? The stereo I found is missing the speakers. I love the silkscreened template. You did a wonderful job.

I think the original speakers for that are also globes on pedestals.
Would be great if you could find them.

  5. I have the speakers but they need to be re foamed. I have no idea how to do that, so... any idea where to get 4.5 inch speakers that will do the job?

  6. It's pretty easy to find some at a store like addison or even on amazon if you enter the specs. There's a screw behind.
